CZECH WINE has arrived! 

Vino z Czech (pronounced “vee-no s check” – i.e. “wine from Czech”) is a specially selected collection of wines from the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic. With the assistance of some of the top sommeliers in the region, our selection of hand crafted, estate bottled wines are labeled using the artwork of Alphonse Mucha to create the Vino z Czech portfolio. Most of these wines are from small wineries; annual production of our varieties range from 180 cases to just under 2200 cases.

Petr Janda Concert 10/29/2017

Petr Janda, lead of the band Olympic for 55 years, is on a solo tour in the US and Bistro Bohem is one of the few venues he will perform at! Come listen to one of his biggest hits and sing along to your favorites. We encourage to purchase tickets in advance thru to guarantee entry. Space is limited, door tickets may not be available.

Oktoberfest 2017  – Sept.18 – Oct.15 

Get your yodel ready and come experience some of the best German dishes in town! Start with a typical potato pancakes, go out to town on Jeager Schnitzel and finish with a delicious “Dumpfnudel” . Don’t forget to pair it all with a 25oz Pilsner Urquel / Essence Riesling or even a mixed drink specially created for Oktoberfest! PROST! NA ZDRAVI! CHEERS!

2017 Atlas Corps Soiree – Sept.16th 7:30pm – 11:00pm @ Wonder Bread Factory

Bistro Bohem is excited to yet again participate and support Atlas Corps Soiree to celebrate an evening of building bridges and women’s empowerment!

Film & Beer Series 2017 – Czech Musicals & Comedies of the 20th Century 

This marks the sixth year of the Film and Beer Series at Bistro Bohem. This year, the series focuses on Czech musicals and comedies of the twentieth century. All films will screen in Czech with English subtitles. Each screening includes one free beer as well as an introduction by a representative from the Czech Embassy. All screenings are subject to change.


September 19, 7 pm – Rebels (Rebelové) Dir. Filip Renč, 2001, 109 min., Czech with English subtitlesCalled “jaw droppingly buoyant” by Variety critic Eddie Cockrell, the love story follows three boys in pursuit of three beautiful girls on break from final exams. Tereza (Zuzana Norisova) catches the eye of Simon (Jan Revai), and the girls are swept off their feet, only to realize the boys are military deserters. Meanwhile, there is a looming tension foreshadowing the 1968 Soviet Invasion. The film features stellar 1960s music, including Josef Zima’s “Gina”and Karel Svoboda’s and Ivo Fischer’s “Shadow of the Cathedrals.” 

October 24, 7 pm – Green Gold (Starci na chmelu) – (Instead of the third Tuesday, we need to screen the film on the 24th due to a conflict in scheduling)Dir. Ladislav Rychman, 1964, 88 min., Czech with English subtitlesThe love story follows classmates Hanka (Ivana Pavlová) and Filip (Vladimir Pucholt) while hop-picking over the summer. Their bond strengthens when they are expelled from school because of jealous rival Honza (Miloš Zavadil). Enjoy a refreshing draft of Pilsner Urquell and sing Czech hits to this humorous film.

November 21, 7 pm – Three Veterans (Tři veteráni) Dir. Oldřich Lipský, 1983, 96 min., Czech with English subtitles. Three veterans are visited by elves who bestow them with a magical hat, bag full of gold, and harp that just might make their wishes come true. The film was nominated for the International Fantasy Film Award at the Fantasporto 1983, and written by Zdeněk Svěrák and Oldřich Lipský.

December 19, 7 pm – Three Brothers (Tři bratři) Dir. Jan Svěrák, 2014, 86 min., Czech with English subtitlesThree young men — played by Czech music and screen stars Vojtěch Dyk, Tomáš Klus, and Zdeněk Piškula — set out to see the world. Their parents hope the pilgrimage will encourage each of them to grow up, find a wife, and then return to run the family farm.  But this is no ordinary trip, and the trio are soon magically transported into famous fairytales, including Little Red Riding HoodSleeping Beauty, and The Twelve Months! Love, laughter, life-long lessons, and even perilous adventures follow. Brimming with clever humor and catchy songs, Three Brothers, directed by Academy Award-winner Jan Svěrák (Kolya, 1996), was a box office success in the Czech Republic, and won three revered Czech Lion Awards for Best Costumes, Best Make-Up, and Best Art Direction.

Bistro Bohem is one of the proud sponsors of DC Pride Volleyball League! DCPVL is a volleyball organization serving the LGBT community and its straight allies in the Washington DC metro area. Following a long running tradition in the District for social volleyball, DCPVL is committed to creating a social and competitive environment for individuals of all genders to meet new people and improve volleyball skills.
